Register to Vote in Oklahoma
WHO CAN REGISTER?
- A citizen of the United States who is a resident of the state of Oklahoma, and is 17½ years old and 18 years or older on election day
- A convicted felon who has fully served the sentence and met all court-ordered requirements
- Persons judges to be mentally incapacitated by a court may NOT register
WHAT INFORMATION IS NEEDED TO REGISTER?
- Your Oklahoma driver’s license number or Oklahoma identification card number, or your Social Security number (last 4 digits) if no driver’s license
- Declaration of a political party: Democratic, Libertarian, Republican, No party/Independent.
- An address of residence or 911 address, or directions to your home, or legal description. A rural route or post office box are not acceptable as an address.
If you have registered before, you can update your name and mailing address by filling out a new voter application form online at the OK Voter Portal or with the paper application.
You must read, sign and date an oath that you have truthfully answered all questions.
VOTERS MAY VOTE IN-PERSON OR BY ABSENTEE BALLOT
IN-PERSON VOTING
- Know your polling location. Your voter registration card lists your district, precinct, and polling place.
- If you are unsure of your voting status, check online at the OK Voter Portal
- If you have been a registered voter but have been moved to the inactive file, you will need to fill out a registration voter application to vote.
- Voter identification is required by Oklahoma law. Your free voter identification card from your County Election board is accepted as your identification. You may also use a photo identification issued by the United States Government, the State of Oklahoma, or a federally recognized tribal government – for example, your Oklahoma drivers license or identification card, a United States passport, United States military identification.
- If you do not have your free voter identification card or an accepted photo identification, you may still vote by provisional ballot and prove your identity by signing a sworn affidavit.
- Candidate campaign paraphernalia (shirts, hats, buttons, etc) CANNOT be worn to or near your polling place on election day
ABSENTEE VOTING
- Any registered Oklahoma voter can vote by absentee, no reasons required, but you will need to have your ballot notarized before sending in
- Submit an absentee ballot application to your election board by the deadline. Go online to the OK Voter Portal or download the application and mail it or deliver it in person. The election board will only accept applications delivered by the requestor.
- The voter can either request an absentee ballot for the next election, for multiple elections, or for all elections in the calendar year.
- You must submit a new absentee ballot application for each calendar year.
- When you receive your ballot in the mail, fill it out, and place it in the envelopes as directed. Do not sign the affidavit until in the presence of a notary.
- Notaries cannot charge a fee for notarizing absentee ballots
- If you have requested a “physically incapacitated” ballot, you will need two witnesses for your signature.
- Affix two forever stamps or the equivalent and drop in the mail for the election board to receive no later than the end of business on the Monday before election day. It is suggested that you mail the absentee ballot at least 10 days before the election date.
